SYRACUSE, N.Y. – On February 11, 2023, at 3:56 p.m., Syracuse Firefighters were alerted by Onondaga County 911 to a possible fire at 303 Catherine Street, in the city’s Hawley-Green Neighborhood. Firefighters from Engine 1 (E. Adams St.) arrived on the scene in 3 minutes. The first crews arriving on the scene saw smoke and flames in a second floor window of the row house type structure. Firefighters stretched hoses into the building and began a systematic search for any trapped occupants. The fire was quickly found and was able to be confined to its origin, an oven in the kitchen of a second-floor apartment. Fire damage in the apartment was minimal, but firefighters remained on scene for a time clearing the building of smoke.
In total, 35 personnel responded to the scene, including command and support staff. The fire was determined to have started in the oven in the kitchen of a second-floor apartment. Syracuse Police, National Grid, American Medical Response, the American Red Cross, and Syracuse Fire Department Ambulance responded to the scene as well. We thank our partners at SPD, Onondaga County 911, National Grid, AMR and the Red Cross. No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters.
