Published on June 23, 2023

Statement by Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh regarding Common Council approval of ReZone Syracuse:

“For the first time in more than a half century, Syracuse has a new zoning ordinance and map. ReZone Syracuse is the result of years of planning, community engagement and a rigorous state-required environmental review. I thank the Planning Commission and the Common Council for their thorough due diligence and approval of ReZone Syracuse. I’m also grateful to the community stakeholders who contributed to the process and to the many people across city government who contributed to this historic accomplishment. It comes at a strategically critical moment. Syracuse needs a modern, forward-looking zoning ordinance and map to capitalize on the growth opportunities ahead, meet the demand for affordable housing and ensure equitable treatment of neighborhoods. ReZone Syracuse is right for the continued resurgence of Syracuse.”
