Civil servants are employees who work for the government at the local, state, and federal levels to provide a service for the public. City government employs people in numerous careers with or without advanced degrees. Often, positions in city government are civil service jobs, meaning they may require taking an exam. Exams vary by the position you apply for. Exams can be free or have an application fee of up to $20.

How can I submit my application? You may submit your application for employment online via our website, or by completing the general application and emailing it to personnel@syr.gov or mailing it to the Human Resource Office at One Park Place, 300 South State St. 7th Floor, Syracuse, NY 13202.
