Mayor Walsh Reminds Seniors About Expanded Property Tax Exemptions

Published on December 05, 2023

Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh is reminding owner-occupied senior homeowners in the City of Syracuse to apply for New York’s newly expanded property tax exemptions. The deadline to apply for partial exemption from City, School, and County property taxes is December 31, 2023.

Under new eligibility requirements, people 64 years of age and older who make up to $58,399.99 may qualify for a reduction on property taxes, as detailed on the chart below. The previous maximum income was $37,399.99.

“Assessment team members are standing by at City Hall every weekday to help eligible seniors claim their property tax exemption. The new guidelines mean people with substantially higher incomes can reduce their property tax burden,” Mayor Walsh said.
