Between October and November of 2022, the City of Syracuse Parks Department’s Planning Division hosted three community engagement summits to gather feedback on14 Southside park spaces. The summits took place at:

  • Dunbar Community Center, located at 1453 S. State Street, 13205 on Tuesday, October 25, 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Southside Innovation Center, located at 2610 S. Salina Street, 13205 on Wednesday, November 9, 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Seals Community Center at Kirk Park, located at 300 W. Borden Ave, 13205 on Thursday, November 10, 12 to 2 p.m.

Through several combined funding sources totaling close to 1 million dollars, using presentation boards to prompt questions and guide discussions, staff successfully solicited open-ended feedback on a variety of projects including playground enhancements, a memorial design and other capital improvements.

Proposed park projects

Proposed park projects will include:

  • Playground upgrades at Baker Playlot for ages 5-12, located at 213 Baker Ave, 13205
  • Playground enhancements at the Southwest Community Center, located at 401 South Ave, 13204
  • Playground additions at Spirit of Jubilee Park, located at 201 South Ave, 13204
  • A new picnic pavilion will be erected at McKinley Park, located at 351 W. Newell Street, 13205
  • New sidewalks around the perimeter of Danforth Park, located at 230 E. Kennedy Street, 13205
  • A Veterans memorial in Kirk Park, located at 439 Kirk Ave, 13205

All projects are expected to be completed by fall 2024, based on weather and contractor availability.
