Project Location: Schiller Park, on the drumlin as well as on the hills up from the Bova Community Center. 

Project Scope: The 10-acre forest restoration work at Schiller Park started in 2022 and will continue throughout 2025. Contractors, Onondaga Earth Corps, and the Syracuse community are removing invasive plants and planting 1,000 native trees and shrubs.  The main target of removal is Buckthorn, which is so dense nothing else can grow. 

Project Budget: $325,000+

Funding Source: This project is funded by a $250,000 Dormitory Authority of the State of New York grant, made possible by Assembly William Magnarelli, in addition to Parks’ capital funds.

Project Timeline: Projected completion is November 2025.
