The City of Syracuse, the Syracuse City School District, Onondaga County and Onondaga, Cortland and Madison County BOCES and New York State are collaborating on the region's first ever Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) high school. The high school will offer a rigorous academic curriculum with a focus on STEAM. The school will be open to students from the SCSD as well as from the OCM BOCES component school districts.

The STEAM High School is a signature project of the Syracuse Surge, the City’s strategy for inclusive growth in the New Economy. The school will be located in the former Central Tech High School in downtown Syracuse, which is being renovated to include state-of-the-art classrooms, labs, and high-tech equipment to prepare students for careers in exciting, high-growth fields. The STEAM High School is located in the emerging Southside Campus for the New Economy, in close proximity to other economic and workforce development facilities that support the growth of high-tech industries in Syracuse, such as the SUNY Educational Opportunity Center, the Tech Garden, and the new JMA Wireless campus. The STEAM High School is a prime example of smart city growth for our children and families.

The new high school will offer a curriculum in science, technology, engineering, arts and math designed to meet the current and future needs of a growing Central New York workforce and will be open to students from the Syracuse City School District as well as the OCM BOCES component school districts.
