Overview

The Greenway Brownfield Redevelopment project involves the assessment, planning, cleanup and marketing activities for targeted brownfield sites on Syracuse's Near Eastside. This includes the abandoned Winkleman property at 101-13 Greenway Avenue and the Former Syracuse Rigging Site at 341 Peat Street. The targeted sites consist of four parcels that require environmental testing and cleanup:

  • 100 Greenway Avenue (Parcel ID: 032.1-01-29.0)
  • 101-13 Greenway Avenue (Parcel ID: 032.1-01-26.0)
  • 102 Greenway Avenue (Parcel ID: 032.1-01-25.0)
  • 341 Peat Street (Parcel ID: 032.1-01-05.3)

The goals of the project are to support the reshoring of manufacturing and its associated logistics and supply chain needs across the region, particularly with the high-tech semiconductor manufacturing industry, by attracting a manufacturer to the future site. The City of Syracuse Industrial Development Agency (SIDA) received funding from the EPA to support project implementation and management and will work with a selected environmental agency to turn the vacant contaminated parcels into a development site that will offer future employment opportunities for city residents.
