2023 Annual Report

Mayor Ben Walsh

"Syracuse is growing in ways that are generating energy, confidence and hope for the future. Growing in ways that are creating opportunity for those who have historically been left behind. Growing in ways that a vibrant and successful region must have at its center."—Mayor Ben Walsh, 2024 State of the City Address

Dear Syracuse,

It’s the City’s vision to be a growing city that embraces diversity and creates opportunity for all, and this year, we’ve seen great progress. We have seen how working together and establishing partnerships across sectors can ensure we reach all communities and create a thriving city. In this report, you will find a summary of the work done over the past year to advance the following four objectives, which we use to guide our work and measure our performance.

  1. Achieve fiscal sustainability
  2. Increase economic investment and neighborhood stability
  3. Provide quality constituent engagement and response
  4. Deliver city services efficiently, effectively, and equitably

As my seventh year in office begins, I am incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved over the last six years. We’re experiencing unprecedented growth, accompanied by a period of great economic and neighborhood investments. From passing a new zoning ordinance, to improved services for residents like a modernized trash cart system, new self-services on the City’s website and the creation of a Central Permit Office to groundbreakings on massive projects like the Tech Garden expansion, the I-81 project and the regional Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) School, Syracuse is once again the center of growth for our region.

Powered by collaboration and reinvigorated investment in the region, we are presented with a window of opportunity that we are prepared to capitalize on. I am grateful for the honor to serve as mayor of our great city, and I look forward to the days ahead.

Sincerely,

Ben Walsh
Mayor
