Join us for a pre-proposal meeting to learn more about Request for Proposals (RFP's) for the Department of Neighborhood and Business Development's (NBD) Blight Busting Program.
The City of Syracuse is seeking qualified local businesses to complete exterior renovations including but not limited to addressing siding, windows, porches, stairs, and railings on designated blighted properties in Syracuse. NBD will identify properties for repair and select from a pool of pre-approved contractors who will bid on projects. Upon project completion, the City will pay contractors directly to ensure a streamlined and efficient process.
The Blight Busting Program aims to revitalize Syracuse’s neighborhoods by addressing properties in disrepair, enhancing community aesthetics, and ensuring compliance with property conservation codes. This program is crucial to improving residents' quality of life while fostering economic opportunities for local businesses, including MWBEs. This initiative is an excellent opportunity for local businesses to contribute to neighborhood revitalization while securing municipal contracts.
The Blight Busting Program was initially launched in 2016 with the support of the Local Initiative Support Corporation Zombie Properties 1.0 Grant. The goal was to improve neighborhood conditions and increase code compliance by performing exterior repairs on privately owned vacant, blighted properties. The program prioritizes tax-current, bank-owned properties and can extend to absentee owners who neglect property maintenance and are unresponsive to noticing from the Division of Code Enforcement.
