Syracuse Fire 2022 Fire Prevention Week Kick-Off Event

Sunday, October 9th, is the kick-off event to start Syracuse Fire's Fire Prevention Week. Join us at the Salt City Market, 484 South Salina Street, in the Community Room to announce the week's events. Please join us for remarks from SFD leadership and the Mayor's office. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week. The National Fire Protection Association scheduled the week on these dates to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. That fire destroyed 17,500 buildings, killed hundreds, and cost $5.4 billion in today's dollars. The NFPA is a global non-profit organization coordinating this worldwide initiative, among other essential duties. There will be various fire safety events around the City during the week. The grand finale is an open house at Station 17 on October 15th. Station 17 is at the corner of South Midler and Burnet Avenues. We encourage members of the community and media to join the public events on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday. For more information about Syracuse's Fire Prevention Week, contact (315) 448-4777 or tbarnett@syrgov.net.
