Job Description
The work involves responsibility for acting as a liaison between contractors and individual departments regarding facilities-related projects. The incumbent gathers necessary information such as departmental needs in order to create bid packages and also assists the Planning Department in reviewing submitted bids for design and construction. Under the general supervision of a higher-level administrator, the Construction Administrator works to assure that projects are following appropriate timelines and that proper materials are being used and all safety guidelines are being adhered to through regular meetings with contractors and by inspections of project sites. Supervision is not typically a function of this class. Does related work as required.
Typical Work Activities
- Assists in gathering necessary information related to bid packages from departments
- Acts as a liaison between departments, contractors and design teams
- Tracks status of all existing contracts
- Inspects all current projects
- Conducts meetings related to projects, including producing and distributing minutes
- Assists in the creation of a Master Project Schedule
- Ensures contractor compliance with County, State and Federal guidelines
- Logs and tracks submittals, Requests for Information and change orders
- Acts as the primary point of contact for all project communications
- Follows and monitors completed projects through the warranty period
Minimum Qualifications
- A) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associates degree in construction management, building construction or a closely related field and three (3) years of professional-level work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in construction management or project management, two (2) years of which must have been in a commercial, industrial or municipal setting; or
- B) Five (5) years of paraprofessional or professional-level work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in building trades or construction in a commercial, industrial or municipal setting, two (2) years of which must have involved project management
