Aquatics

Pool Recreational Aide

Job duties include: greeting patrons at the front door. Help with cleaning and sanitizing the bathrooms, locker rooms and other general upkeep. Applicants would also be responsible for keeping track of swimmer head count and general rule enforcement.

Night Security

Responsibilities include securing securing the facility and checking all fences and/or entrances for possible security issues. Applicants would be required to stay alert in order to see and hear individuals trying to enter the pool after hours and ensuring all entrances remain locked.

Certified Pool Operator

Responsible for regular preventative maintenance of pools and filter systems. Cleans and services filter and backwash filter. Takes chlorine and other chemical reading of pool water and adjust chlorine levels as needed. Applicants would also be required to assist with general cleaning, upkeep and maintenance of the pools and pump rooms. Certification required for this position.

Lifeguard

Maintain a safe swimming environment by scanning the water and enforcing pool rules and regulations. Administer first aid in the event of an injury. Rescue swimmers in distress or danger of drowning. Administer CPR or artificial respiration if necessary. Cleaning and sanitizing the bathrooms, locker rooms and facilitate other general maintenance. Keep track of swimmer head count. Walk the deck and through the bathrooms to ensure rule enforcement. Water Safety Instructor

Responsible for teaching students swimming skills and water safety according to the curriculum and standards of the American Red Cross. Instructors must be American Red Cross WSI certified.

Recreation

Fitness/Wellness Class Instructor

Opportunities exist for experience fitness, yoga or dance instructors to lead sessions for youth, adults and seniors. Proposals for new class themes are welcome! Experience in leading safe, effective group experiences is required. Certifications by one or more national organizations may be necessary where applicable. Applicants must be CPR/AED certified.

Summer Aide - Recreation

Assist site director in the operation of a daytime recreation program in a park or community center. Duties include leading or assisting with active, outdoor recreational games and activities, passive or indoor  games, arts and crafts projects, providing supervision on field trips, assisting with lunch or dinner program, coaching a sports team, assisting with general clean-up. Will be working with youth primarily between the ages of 7-14 unless otherwise notified.

Summer Aide - Site Director/Assistant

Responsible for leading recreation programming in parks, community centers or mobile recreation sites. Responsibilities include creating and overseeing a comprehensive, age-appropriate schedule of activities for a youth recreation program; maintaining safety and security or a park facility, respond appropriately to emergencies, supervising staff, monitoring registration and preparing weekly and monthly administrative reports. Applicants should also be prepared to implement all safety protocol and may include administering lunch or dinner programming and field trip activities.

Summer Aide - Physical Activity Specialist

Responsible for implementing specialized physical activity and wellness components of youth and senior recreation programs. Responsibilities include implementing fitness and wellness curricula, teaching classes, compiling program reports and proposing new sessions.

Summer Aide - Mobile Recreation

Responsible for assisting in the operation of the Mobile Recreation program, leading games and activities in a variety of park locations throughout the city. Staff are responsible for organizing, instructing and supervising a variety of fun, active games, sports, cooperative play activities and craft projects; all utilizing a range or recreational equipment. Mobile Recreation staff may provide oversight of kayak, snowshoe or other equipment rentals. Employees in this position are expected to be creative and enthusiastic with leading games and activities, while exercising sound judgement and safe practices while working with little supervision. Night and Weekend work may be required. CPR/AED certification is preferred.

Summer Aide - Night Recreation Assistant

Responsible for assisting recreation directors with program supervision and implementation of activities. Must be 21 or older. Employees in this position are expected to be creative and enthusiastic.

  • Hours: 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Summer Aide - Half Day Sports Clinic Counselor

Responsibilities vary week-by-week and by camp and include assisting directors with operations of a one week summer camp by assisting with instruction, officiating, general supervision and lunch distribution. Should have familiarity with some sports or camp topics. Must apply for each session individually.

  • Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Monday - Friday

Summer Aide - E-sports Attendant

Employees will provide supervision of dedicated E-sports space along with appropriate instruction, coaching and management of equipment within an after school teen recreation facility. Employees in this position will organize and facilitate video gaming/esports programming, guide youth in responsible gaming practices, teamwork and skills. May prepare youth for participation in leagues and tournaments. Candidates should model sportsmanship and positive digital citizenship.

Arts & Crafts

Arts & Crafts Class Instructor

Opportunities exist for experienced art instructors to lead sessions for youth, adults and/or seniors. Proposals for new class themes are welcome! Examples include: jewelry making, ceramics, and sewing. Experience in leading safe, effective group experiences is required.

Summer Aide - Arts & Crafts

Responsible for planning and leading arts and crafts projects for youth at Community Centers or as a part of the Mobile Recreation unit. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with operations and classes at Burnet Park Arts & Crafts Center, organizing and keeping inventory of supplies and recording attendance.

Grounds

Field Maintenance Worker

Responsible for executing the seasonal Field Maintenance program including: general field maintenance duties, assisting with field maintenance projects, cleaning park grounds and buildings, as well as operating small landscape related equipment and assisting with special functions.

Trails Maintenance Worker

Responsible for assisting the Trails Coordinator with the following: general trail maintenance duties, assisting with field maintenance projects, cleaning park and trails grounds and buildings, as well as operating small landscape related equipment and assisting with special functions.

Grounds Maintenance Worker

Responsible for assisting Grounds labor crews with park maintenance. Typical work responsibilities include general park maintenance duties. Assisting with field and park maintenance projects, cleaning park grounds and buildings, as well as operating small landscape related equipment and assisting with special functions.

Greenhouse Maintenance Worker

Responsible for assisting the Greenhouse Coordinator with seasonal planting schedule. Typical work responsibilities include performing basic maintenance such as cutting grass, emptying bins, managing weed control and leaf raking, plant and nurture new trees, flowers and various plants, work with hand tools, operating small landscape related equipment, light maintenance, litter and debris removal and assisting with special functions.

Athletics

Summer Aide - Adult Athletics Events

Employees in this position will assist Adult Athletics staff with setup and execution of athletic leagues and event, field and faculty permits and other programs. Duties may include opening and closing facilities, preparing facilities for us, set up and breakdown of equipment with event participants and permit holders. Nights and Weekends are required. A driver’s license is required for this position. Employees must be CPR/AED certified, or willing to obtain certification.

Summer Aide - Adult Athletics Program Assistant

Employees in this position will assist Adult Athletics staff with to support the implementation and completion of athletic events, fitness classes, Syrathon series races and fun-runs, Cycle in the City bicycle rides and other programming within the Parks Department. Employees will gain experience planning and executing events. Applicants should plan to interact with the public daily. Nights and Weekends required. Light physical labor and cleaning may be required.

Summer Aide - Lacrosse Scorekeeper

Keeps track of time and score during City Recreation Lacrosse games and fulfills other duties throughout evenings including preparing the field for games, unlocking and locking bathrooms and equipment, set-up and take down of equipment, communicating with referees and teams, acting as a liaison between players, referees and the Parks Department.

Special Events

Summer Aide - Permitted Events

Assist with the setup and execution of special even programs, preparing park sites for activities, and other tasks as needed. A qualified candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm and the ability to communicate professionally with participants, the ability to work in a team environment, and be capable of doing physically strenuous labor at times. Applicants must be self-motivated as they often work with little supervision and must be able to do their job effectively and independently. Some tasks may include emptying trash, opening/closing park facilities and cleaning shelters and event locations and setting up barricades, signage or cones. A driver’s license is required for this position.

Golf Course

Summer Aide - Golf Course

Employers in this position will work as on-course managers to patrol City municipal golf courses, and off-course as a golf shop attendant. Duties include ensuring safe and engaging play, cleaning, performing all transactions, answering phone calls, and registration for our events and membership. Applicants should be prepared to provide courteous assistance and information to golfers as needed. Must have strong work ethic, reliability and ability to work as a team.

  • This position runs annually from May 1st through October 15th.
