Menacing Complaint Leads to Barricaded Suspect

On Monday, January 2nd, 2023, at around 9:49 a.m., Officers responded to Teall Avenue at Shuart Avenue for a menacing complaint. A call was made to 911 from a delivery driver working in the area about a male pointing a long gun at others at the location. Officers responded to the scene to investigate. At around 9:59 a.m., Officers observed the suspect, Corey Gray, 44, at his residence in the 400 block of Shuart Street. Officers on the scene made several verbal requests for Gray to exit, which he refused. Syracuse Police Crisis Negotiators were called to the scene along with the department's SWAT team. After an approximate 14-hour standoff, Gray attempted to flee out the rear of his residence and was quickly taken into custody. Gray was arrested and charged with Menacing in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree. Gray may also face additional charges for his actions in damaging a police vehicle during the call. The Syracuse Police Department would like to thank the community members who followed the requests to either shelter in place or avoid the area during the incident.
