16-year-old arrested and charged with murder

On April 18th, 2023, at 11:44 a.m., Syracuse Police Officers responded to 245 Martin Luther King West for a shooting with injuries call. Upon arrival, and after some investigation, Officers were directed to the driveway at 206 Furman Street. At that location, Officers located a victim, later identified as 23-year-old Nykeem Stallworth. It was evident that Stallworth had been shot. Attempts were made by emergency personnel to treat Stallworth at the scene, but he was pronounced deceased soon thereafter.

 

An investigation was commenced by Patrol Officers and CID Homicide Unit Detectives. Numerous people were interviewed, and an extensive neighborhood and citywide canvass was conducted. In addition, several search warrants were executed, and evidence recovered was processed and thoroughly analyzed. As a result of the above efforts, a 16-year-old male suspect, who Patrol Officers previously arrested for being in possession of a handgun near the scene of the Murder, was identified as the suspect in this homicide.

 

On May 15th, 2023, the 16-year-old male suspect was arraigned in Youth Court and charged with Murder in the Second Degree. He was later lodged at Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Center, where he is currently being held.

 

The 16-year-old is charged with one count of Murder in the Second Degree and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.
