Syracuse, N.Y. – The Syracuse Fire Department (SFD) emerged triumphant in this year’s highly anticipated Bravest vs Finest charity basketball game, taking home the trophy after a spirited and competitive matchup against the Syracuse Police Department (SPD). Syracuse Fire won the game 92-88.

The event, which took place at the Corcoran High School Gymnasium, brought together over 250 attendees and raised more than $2,500 in support of the United Way of Central New York. Bringing this game back to the Syracuse Community has offered an opportunity to celebrate the dedication of the city’s first responders while supporting critical local initiatives. This year’s game was no exception, featuring high-energy play, enthusiastic fans, and a shared commitment to giving back.

“This game represents the best of what community is all about,” said Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh.

“While we’re honored to take home the trophy this year, the real victory is the impact we’re able to make through our partnership with United Way,” said Syracuse Fire Department Chief Michael Monds.

Funds raised during the event will directly benefit United Way programs that support education, health and financial stability throughout Central New York. The organization expressed its gratitude for the continued partnership with both departments.

“We are incredibly thankful for the generosity and dedication shown by the SFD and SPD, and by everyone who came out to support this event,” said Nancy Eaton, President of United Way of CNY. “Community-driven efforts like this are what allow us to do the work we do.”

The Syracuse Fire Department’s victory adds another exciting chapter to the ongoing friendly rivalry between the departments—a tradition that underscores mutual respect and shared values of service, leadership and community support. The City of Syracuse and United Way plan to repeat the event next year with hopes to grow participation, attendance and fundraising.
