Crews from Station 2 (Lodi St.) arrived in under 2 minutes to find smoke issuing from a gymnasium attached to the school. Firefighters forced entry to the building and found a fire in the vestibule of the gymnasium. It was extinguished by firefighters with no extension to the attached school, which was occupied by students and staff. They were evacuated by firefighters as soon as they arrived. There were no injuries. The gymnasium had been undergoing renovations and was locked. The fire is under investigation. Crews remained on scene to ventilate smoke from the gym.

Smoke was seen coming from a top-floor apartment with an elderly resident out on the balcony. Firefighters made their way to the top floor and found a heavy smoke condition. When they arrived at the apartment, they found and removed the resident from the smoke. The fire was from cooking and did not spread from the stove. The resident was cared for by AMR paramedics.
