Firefighters Quickly Extinguish Fire on Clairmonte Ave

Syracuse, NY- On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 6:34 p.m., Syracuse Firefighters were alerted by the Onondaga County 911 Center to a reported structure fire at 218 Clairmonte Ave. Firefighters from Station 3 on Bellevue Ave arrived at the scene just over two minutes later and found a two-and-a-half-story wood-frame residence with a fire burning through the front door. Initial Units transmitted a signal ‘99’, indicating a working fire.

As teams of firefighters moved hoses into the building to locate and extinguish the fire, other teams of firefighters prepared to search the entire building. The sole occupant of the house was confirmed outside a few minutes after the arrival of the initial companies. She had evacuated the home prior to the arrival of the fire department. The fire in the living room of the residence was quickly extinguished. Other areas of the house were checked to ensure the fire had not spread. The fire was extinguished in less than ten minutes and all searches for hot spots and possible extension were completed in less than twenty minutes from dispatch. Crews remained at the scene for an additional two hours clearing smoke from the building, cleaning up, and assisting investigators.

The building is a single-family home. One occupant was displaced; the Red Cross is assisting them. The SFD Fire Investigator has determined that the fire spread from the chimney to a chair and then to the living room. The living room sustained fire, smoke, and water damage. The first and second floors sustained heavy smoke damage. There were no injuries to civilians or to Fire Department personnel. Syracuse Police, American Medical Response, National Grid, and the American Red Cross also responded to the scene. We thank our partners at the 911 Center, SPD, AMR, National Grid, and the Red Cross.
