Firefighters Quickly Extinguish Fire on Washington Square
Syracuse, NY- On Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 2:34 p.m., Syracuse Firefighters were alerted by the Onondaga County 911 Center to a reported structure fire at 211 Washington Square. Firefighters from Station 2 on Lodi Street arrived in less than two minutes and found a two-story wood frame residence with smoke from multiple windows on the first and second floors and the chimney.
A hose line was deployed, and as soon as firefighters opened the door, they observed fire with smoke to the floor with minimal visibility on the first floor. A signal ’99,’ indicating a working structure fire, was transmitted. The fire in the first room was quickly extinguished. Teams of firefighters searched the structure for any trapped occupants and any fire that had traveled from that first room. There were no occupants inside the structure. The fire was declared out within ten minutes of being dispatched. Crews remained at the scene for an additional hour, clearing smoke from the building, cleaning up, and assisting investigators.
The building is a single-family home that suffered fire, smoke, and water damage. The structure was unoccupied. The fire was accidental, caused by an electrical malfunction of a lamp. There were no injuries to civilians or to Fire Department personnel.
Syracuse Police, American Medical Response, and National Grid also responded to the scene. We thank our partners at the 911 Center, SPD, AMR, and National Grid.
