Firefighters Quickly Extinguish Fire on Park Street

Syracuse, NY- On Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 5:28 p.m., Syracuse Firefighters were alerted by the Onondaga County 911 Center to a reported house on fire at 346 Park St. Firefighters from Station 9, on Shuart Ave, arrived at the scene in just under three minutes and found a two-and-a-half-story wood frame mutli-family structure with smoke and fire showing from the first floor apartment. The initial unit on the scene transmitted a signal ‘99’, indicating a working fire.

As teams of firefighters moved hoses into the first-floor apartment, other teams of firefighters prepared to methodically search the entire building. Two hoses were deployed into the first-floor apartment. A third hose was brought to the second-floor apartment directly above the fire. The fire was extinguished after approximately 10 minutes. Crews remained at the scene for an additional 50 minutes, clearing smoke from the building, cleaning up, and assisting investigators.

The building contains multiple apartments, and the fire occurred in apartment 1, the first-floor apartment of 346 Park St. That apartment suffered fire, smoke, and water damage. Other parts of the building also suffered smoke and water damage. This fire displaced two occupants; they are being assisted by the Red Cross. Syracuse Fire Investigators have determined the fire started in a first-floor room used as a bedroom. The cause of the fire is improper disposal of smoking materials. There were no injuries to civilians or to Fire Department personnel.

Syracuse Police, American Medical Response, National Grid, and the American Red Cross also responded to the scene. We thank our partners at the 911 Center, SPD, AMR, National Grid, and the Red Cross.
