TWO CHILDREN AND ONE ADULT INJURED DURING JULY 4th FIRE

Syracuse, NY- On Friday, July 4, 2025, at 7:20 p.m., Syracuse Firefighters were alerted by the Onondaga County 911 Center to a reported fire at 2614 Midland Ave. Crews from Station 18 arrived at the scene in 2 minutes and found a 2 ½ story home with heavy fire coming from the 2nd floor and arcing electrical lines down in the front yard. An adult with two children had escaped before the Fire Department arrived and were immediately treated by EMS on scene.  Engine 18 began stretching a hose line into the house as other teams started to search for additional victims. A Signal “99” was transmitted, indicating a working fire.

As crews entered, they encountered flames and high heat at the top of the stairs to the 2nd floor and immediately began extinguishing the fire. Firefighters continued to search through the heat and smoke to try to locate potential victims. The fire was under control in 20 minutes and declared out after an hour. No victims were found. Crews remained on scene for 7 hours, cleaning up and assisting investigators.

Five people were home at the time of the fire and were able to escape. Three of the occupants suffered burn injuries while exiting. One child was transported to Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. The other injured parties were treated at the scene and released. The second-floor apartment and attic of the 2-family house suffered fire damage. Other parts of the building sustained smoke and water damage. Fifteen occupants were displaced by the fire and were assisted by The Red Cross. According to Syracuse Fire Investigators, the fire originated on the 2nd floor front porch, caused by the reckless discharging of fireworks. There were no injuries to firefighters during the incident.

Syracuse Police, American Medical Response, National Grid and The Red Cross also responded to the scene. We thank our partners at the 911 Center, SPD, AMR, National Grid and The Red Cross.
