The City of Syracuse Department of Parks & Recreation Forestry Division will close James Pass Arboretum on Aug. 11-12. Forestry crews will complete tree removal and maintenance as part of the Pass Arboretum Improvement Plan. To ensure public safety, the park will be closed to all visitors. Entrances will be fenced off and closed beginning Monday, Aug. 11 at 7 a.m. until approximately 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
Crews will remove trees that are invasive, structurally unsound, dead or near the end of their lifespan. The Forestry Division will also prune other trees to clear deadwood and improve their structure, health and ability to withstand storm events. In keeping with an arboretum, low branches on pruned trees will remain within eye level so that people can easily observe twigs, buds and leaves.
