Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh announced the appointment of Sarah Walton to Director of East Adams Neighborhood Redevelopment in the Department of Neighborhood and Business Development (NBD). Walton is responsible for coordinating with partners involved in the redevelopment of Syracuse Housing Authority (SHA) properties and the New 15th Ward neighborhood. Walton works closely with the City’s Interstate 81 Project Director, as well as the City’s Resurgent Neighborhoods Initiative Infill Housing Coordinator and members of both neighborhood planning and business development teams. Together they work to ensure a community-driven and equity-based approach to planning and redeveloping this historic neighborhood.

Prior to joining City government, Walton dedicated 10 years of service in the nonprofit sector. She most recently held the position of Director at Third Sector, a Boston based nonprofit consultancy that leverages public funding, data and policy to advance equitable outcomes in communities. In this role, she guided a collaborative process with Connecticut’s Office of Early Childhood to deploy $400 million of federal relief funding and managed a Higher Education Pay-for-Success Social Impact Bond to fund services that increase degree completion for underserved students. Walton also served as Associate Executive Director at the Syracuse Northeast Community Center, where she oversaw services and programs addressing the changing needs and interests of Syracuse’s north/northeast neighborhoods.

Walton received her Bachelor of Arts in Policy Studies and Geography from Maxwel School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.
