Common Council’s Reliance on Outside Analysis of FY26 City Budget

COMMON COUNCIL’S RELIANCE ON OUTSIDE ANALYSIS OF FY26 CITY BUDGET IS “INCONCEIVABLE” AND A “UNNECESSARY WASTE OF TAXPAYER MONEY”

Statement by Corey Dunham, Chief Administrative Officer, regarding Syracuse Common Council outside analysis of Fiscal Year 2025-2026 City Budget:

“It’s inconceivable that the Common Council, elected to understand city operations including budgeting, would rely on a report which provides a generic and superficial review of municipal finance. Council leadership drove an analysis that failed to include interviews or consultation with the budget office, finance or anyone in our operating departments, counsel or the administration. The rushed, secretive and incomplete process created by Council leadership led to an unnecessary waste of taxpayer funds and explains why the Council erred so gravely in its budget amendments.”
