City Hall Reopens After Suspicious Incident

City Hall closed to the public Monday, Sept. 29 at 12:00 p.m. due to Syracuse Police investigating a suspicious incident. Officers responded to a report of a suspicious item in the area of Montgomery Street and Water Street. The item was located in a tree and, following investigation, was determined to be a listening device that was placed there for the purpose of environmental and traffic monitoring.
 
Syracuse Police, during their investigation, asked the public to avoid the area. SPD has announced there is no threat to the public and the scene is clear. Syracuse Police have reopened city streets. City Hall will remain closed to the public for the remainder of the day. It will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 30 during regular business hours.

  • Monday's Common Council meeting has been canceled.
  • Monday's City Planning Commission Meeting has been canceled.
  • Cityline call center is closed. Residents can submit city service requests online or using the SYR Cityline app.
