City Names Christina Root to Parks and Rec Public Information Officer

The City of Syracuse names Christina Root to Parks and Recreation Public Information Officer. As part of the City Communications Team, Root is responsible for supporting the public information, media relations, outreach, and communications activities of the Department of Parks, Recreation & Youth Programs. 

In this role, Root will provide communications materials for a wide range of activities, events, and public projects related to more than 1,000 acres of parks, playgrounds, and open spaces throughout Syracuse overseen by the Parks Department. Root will collaborate with the department to create and distribute physical and digital content to promote Parks programs and initiatives, and engage with the media, community organizations, and other stakeholders to inform and educate City residents about the services Parks provides. 

Root most recently worked as the Communications, Development and Advocacy Coordinator for AccessCNY, where she led public relations efforts, marketing and social media initiatives, and donor advocacy campaigns. She previously worked as a Community Recreational Assistant for the City of Syracuse Department of Parks, Recreation & Youth Programs, assisting in coordinating promotion for recreational programs, planning community events, and served as a liaison between city residents and community members. 

Root earned a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies – Journalism/Mass Communications, and Political Science from the Jandoli School of Communication at St. Bonaventure University. She is a member of the Central New York chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and a former Advocacy Board member of the Central New York Human Services Leadership Council.
