Syracuse Fire called to 217 Searlwyn Road
Published on September 17, 2022
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – On August 10, 2022 at 2:18 p.m., Syracuse firefighters were alerted by the 911 Center to a possible house fire at 217 Searlwyn Road. Firefighters from Engine 18 (Midland Ave.) arrived in just over four minutes to find a two-story residence with heavy fire engulfing the front side of the building and the unenclosed front porch. Firefighters extinguished the fire around the front door on the porch and made an aggressive interior fire attack into the first
floor, where they encountered more fire. During this fire attack, other firefighters searched the residence for victims; there were none found. Two occupants of the house had self-evacuated after being alerted by their neighbors about the fire. Firefighters continued working in the house, searching for fire spread to the second floor and extinguishing pockets of fire on the first floor. Despite damage to the exterior and first floor, firefighters successfully prevented fire spread to the rest of the house. Three attack handlines were used to extinguish the fire.
Crews remained on scene to ventilate smoke and toxic gases from the house. Salvage was performed, protecting some electronics and keepsakes. After fires, firefighters attempt to salvage and protect possessions from further damage for homeowners and businesses. Two occupants were displaced. No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation by Syracuse Fire investigators. We thank our partners at the 911 Center, National Grid, Syracuse Police, and AMR.
