Syracuse Firefighters Alerted to House Fire in the 100 Block of Mooney

Published on August 19, 2022

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – On August 18, 2022 at 8:35 p.m., Syracuse firefighters were alerted by the 911 Center to a possible house fire in the 100 block of Mooney Ave. Firefighters from Station 9 (Shuart Ave) arrived in under 1½ minutes to find a large detached, wood-framed, 2-car garage fully engulfed in fire. The intense heat from the fire had begun to melt the siding on two adjacent houses and an adjacent wooden fence was also on fire. The roof of the garage was collapsing upon arrival. Firefighters used three fire attack handlines to suppress the fire in the garage and to spray the adjacent homes, preventing further heat damage and fire spread. Crews checked the adjacent homes for any possibility of fire spread. Despite severe damage to the garage, firefighters successfully prevented severe damage to the two adjacent homes.
No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation by Syracuse Fire investigators. We thank our partners at the 911 Center, National Grid, Syracuse Police, and AMR.
