Youth Advisory Council

The Common Council has created a Youth Advisory Council (YAC) to increase civic education and engage Syracuse young people in local and state government. In collaboration with the Syracuse City School District, the Council has created a class where students will learn about local and state government and engage with community and elected leaders. As a final project of the class, teams of students will identify a problem in the City of Syracuse and develop a plan to solve the problem. Then the teams will create written materials to demonstrate their solution and make a speech to city and community leaders.

Who can apply?
  • Residents of the City of Syracuse who attend 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade at a Syracuse City School District school; a parochial school; or a charter school. Prior YAC participants are not eligible.
