Training Division

The Syracuse Fire Department Training Division is responsible for training and equipping the members of the Syracuse Fire Department. All training conducted meets or exceeds current state and federal requirements. Some of the specific training responsibilities include:

  • Recruit Firefighter Academy
  • Field Training Officer Program
  • 100 Hour NYS Required Annual In-Service Training
  • Officer Development Training
  • Research and Development
  • Purchasing and Distribution of loose equipment

The training facility, located at 312 State Fair Boulevard, has a modern classroom for 28 firefighters, a five-story training tower, separate smoke house, 2 story live fire house with temperature monitoring equipment, and a roof simulator for cutting holes. The large grounds can be used for many other fire exercises including driver training.

We are currently the home of the annual NYSAFC Fire Hands-On Training sessions.

Thanks to ARPA funds we are working on building a new training building. The new building will have a three-story residential section and a fifty-foot-tall tower. The residential area will have two balconies and the building will have a four-story fire escape. There will be moveable walls to change the layout. There will be a built-in smoke machine system for the entire building. We will have five different rooms that could contain a fire. This building will allow us to set up situations that cover a wide array of situations we can/may encounter.
