Fire Investigation Bureau
Overview
New York State General Municipal Law 204-d requires the Fire Chief or his designee "to the extent reasonably possible determine... the cause of each fire or explosion which the fire department...has been called to suppress."
We follow this law by assigning a team of four NYS Certified Fire Investigators to the Fire Investigations Bureau. These four individuals work a rotating schedule that allows for 24/7/365 coverage. We have members assigned to line companies that maintain NYS Certification. These individuals assist at large fires and can fill in when needed.
Fire Report Information
All requests for information from any Fire Department report has to go through the Law Department. The link directly to the FOIL Request Portal is below.
